Job Description

 

  • Essex Bank is seeking an experienced Compliance Officer to lead our compliance management system and oversee our Vendor Management and Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) programs. 
  •  
  • In this role, you will serve as a strategic leader having overall responsibility for the compliance management system, chairing internal committees and collaborating with management across IT, Lending, Marketing, Trust, and Accounting. You will ensure the Bank remains fully compliant with all state and federal regulations (excluding BSA and HR) while protecting the institution from undue risk.

  • Key Responsibilities

  • Regulatory Oversight: Review and interpret new and amended Federal Regulations and State laws.

  • Committee Leadership: Chair the Internal Compliance Committee and serve on the Board Compliance Committee. Serve as a contributing member of Privacy, Information Security, & Branch/Department meetings.

  • Audit Liaison: Act as the primary contact for internal audits and regulatory exams, including FDIC Connect. If needed, consult legal counsel to ensure that policies comply with federal and state law.

  • Vendor Management: Lead the Vendor Management Program to limit risk and ensure sound VMP audit results.

  • Loan -Related Duties: Oversees and administers the Bank’s Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) program to ensure ongoing compliance with applicable federal regulations and guidance. Responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring CRA strategies, policies, and procedures; coordinating data collection and performance analysis; preparing management and Board reports; and serving as the primary liaison during regulatory examinations. Ensures the Bank effectively meets the credit needs of its communities, including low - and moderate-income areas, consistent with safe banking practices via outreach, collaborating with Bank officers, and community groups.

  • Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and guide assistant handling Compliance, Vendor Management, and CRA duties.


  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with management to achieve compliance goals (i.e. I.T., Lending, Marketing, Trust, Deposit/BSA, Accounting) and training needs.  

  • Community Relations: Represent the Bank at civic functions, business associations, and regulatory events.



  • Salary range: $90,000 - $120,000 annually D.O.E


Knowledge and Skills:

BS/BA or 10 years of experience in banking including bank compliance and project management.  Must possess excellent team building, and interpersonal skills to motivate people towards reaching collaborative conclusions with tact, diplomacy, and integrity.  Requires strong analytical and decision-making skills.  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
